Hi all

This afternoon we arrived in Calais, France from Dover in England. The last few days have been both eventful and entertaining.

We checked out of our hotel in London on Tuesday morning and headed out to Heathrow on the tube to pick up our car. We headed over to the hire car company to fill out the paperwork and that's when I realised I had left all our passports in the room safe back at our hotel!!!! So back we go, all the way to Earls Court to collect them, then back to Heathrow....2 hours of our day wasted. Anyway, we picked up our car and headed off to Dover.

The drive was good....it takes Mark a little while to settle in to driving in a different country but I have to say he has done very well up to this point. As we drove into Dover, we were greeted by a huge castle on the hill in front of us. It was really beautiful and Em found it very exciting. It was getting quite late by now so we found a hotel and checked in.

The next day we planned to visit the Dover Castle, which we discovered is one of the top 5 castles in the UK and then head across to Calais on the ferry. However, there was so much to see at the castle that we ended up spending another night in Dover.

The castle was originally built in 1107 by King Henry the 2nd and from then on has a very rich history. There are a series of underground tunnels built into the cliffs around the castle that were utilised during the world wars, one of them being used as an underground hospital. The tours through these were incredible!

This morning we did finally head off for the ferry and arrived in Calais this afternoon. We spent some time walking through the streets and had a beautiful lunch in a little French cafe. Tonight we will stay here before we head off again tomorrow..........where to I cant tell you because we haven't decided yet!!!!

Will blog again soon.
