Hi guys
Today we ventured up to the Capilano Suspension Bridge here in Vancouver. It was built in 1889 and was originally constructed of hemp ropes and cedar planks attached to Douglas-firs.....thankfully, over the years, it has been upgraded but is still quite a harrowing experience for someone like me who is not so good swinging over a river 230ft in the air!! Emily loved it and even completed the new Cliff Walk. The Cliff walk is series of suspended walkways jutting out from the granite cliff face above the Capilano River. It is very high and very narrow and in some places has glass flooring. I made it across but didn't really SEE anything as I could only look at my feet and keep on walking.
After this heart stopping attraction we went to check out an area of Vancouver known as Gastown. It is the site of the original settlement. It has quaint cobblestone streets and an amazing steam clock which blows a series of whistles every half hour. The clock was great but the warm air coming from the steam it produced was even better on a cold wet Vancouver day. The area now is a mix of retail shops, art galleries and restaurants. We wandered in and out of the streets just browsing and shopping....Emily's favourite thing to do, and Marks least favourite thing to do, with me trying to keep the peace between the two!!!!!
Not too much on the agenda for tomorrow as this is my last day to wash and repack before we fly out to the UK.
Hope all is well wherever you are! Will blog again soon.
